Fur for Fall

It's Fall.

I'm hoping you all are as excited as I am for this Fall season, because the 'love always' blog will be featuring some fantastic new outfits as well as a few new giveaways! It's the season of giving and I can't wait to begin such a wonderful season with you all.

Now, I have to tell you this is one of my favorite outfits in my closet. This fur gilet came to my doorstep as a birthday gift in August and I have been dying to wear it ever since. It keeps me warm on those breezy Fall days when I don't want to pack on a ton of layers. Also, these black pants are definately one of the most comfortable pairs I have. They are high waisted but graze at the ankles and look great paired with a pair of ankle booties. And if you haven't noticed already, the glam earrings are from shopmovv.com of whom I did my first blog interview with!

This whole outfit was found on ASOS minus the great Sam Edelman boots that I found at Nordstrom.

Mlkanhny Jewelry

Welcome back!
I am excited to be launching my special Q&A with Madison of MLKANHNY! Thank you to everyone who participated in her giveaway, we sure had a great time putting it together for you all! Now, here is what you all have been waiting for:

Q&A with Madison Bodenmann

D: What is MLKANHNY?

M: MLKANHNY creates unique pieces of jewelry that support women expressing their own personalities while empowering them to be creative and confident in their personal style.

D: What is the story behind the name "MLKANHNY?"

M: My business name came to me while I was writing about this dream to become a jewelry designer. "Milk and honey" came to mind and after that moment it continued to repeat itself over and over in my head for the next few weeks. Those words felt like they embodied my design style and it became clear to me I had to go with that name. I used an unconventional way of putting the business name together by taking out the vowels except for one, the a. Voila, MLKANHNY! Designing has been a natural response in my life for as long as I can remember. I always loved the process of craft and I've been sewing clothing for the last 4 years. To be honest our quaint home doesn't leave much room for a fashion design studio, and I've been making jewelry as a form of creative expression since high school. I have always had a fascination for jewelry and the stories that it holds in my life. It has naturally evolved from this creative expression into a business over the last 10 months.

D: Do you have a team or you the sole-designer?

M: Right now I do just about everything. From designing and making the jewelry, to taking photos and running the Etsy/Blog/Facebook page and I enjoy every aspect of it. Although, my husband has majorly influenced my design aesthetic and has taken portrait photos to display some of my work on models.

D: Everyone draws there inspiration from some where, some thing, some place...what ways to you find inspiration to make so many different beautiful pieces?

M: My inspiration comes from whatever I am drawn to, from the waves in the ocean to an old vogue fashion photograph. I love using colors and shapes that I see in nature. Brass is something that I have been quite fascinated with. The natural antiqued gold colors in it look so beautiful with the semi-precious stones I used. I have a vintage nostalgic feel in my designs and that comes from the love of old things with a story to tell.

D: Where do you find all the difference stones and chains that you use?

M: I believe in supporting local businesses so I source the stones and some of the metal locally but a lot of the brass and chains I use are from Turkey.

D: What is MLKANHNY doing now and where do you see yourself going with it in the next 5-10 years?

M: Well right now MLKANHNY gives 10% of it's proceeds directly to rescuing women and men from human trafficking at Home Of New Beginnings in Bangkok, Thailand (www.homeofnewbeginnings.com). I would love to fully support what they are doing there in the next 5 years as MLKANHNY grows. In 10 years I would love to help create dignifing opportunities for the women and men there.

About MLKANHNY:
MLKANHNY is a Vancouver Island based contemporary jewelry line. Each piece is made by hand on the Island by the founder and designer, Madison. Balancing her self-taught design aesthetic with a love for the elegance of repetition, she uses semi-precious stones, metals, glass, and vintage findings to create each piece.  Her signature pieces are one of a kind statement necklaces.

Started in September of 2013 simply as a creative expression,  MLKANHNY has now become a full jewelry line that truly reflects Madison's unique perspective.

Necklace Giveaway:

This Necklace is a lapis and brass pendant hung from a long delicate oxidized brass chain. The brass pieces are hexagons that have been hammered to texturize and sit behind the lapis creating an eye catching backdrop that brings out the brilliant blues.

Movv

Kate Mills is a young graduate of the University of Idaho, with a major in Clothing, Textile, and Design. While a student at the University she and two others started UI Body Con, a club for all students at UI to band together and help create their own elaborate style portfolios. After graduation she started a small career in radio sales in Moscow, Idaho. It turned out that radio sales was not for her and shortly after leaving her job there she began Movv. When I asked Mills, why Movv? She answered with "I needed something to be passionate about, and I wasn't passionate about my current job. Movv is a vision I had to create the shopping destination I had been searching for. One with items that are elegant and posh, fresh with a touch of bohemian, all while being affordable."

What is Movv? Movv is an "affordable e-boutique with the feel of a luxury boutique and is an easy elegant take on fresh and fierce versatility and wanderlust glamour." The e-boutique not only features the glamorous jewelry but is now beginning to integrate a few clothing items, like the gorgeous 'Wanderer' tank shown below.

Mills hopes to be able to launch a many more designs by Movv in the near future.
